ABSTRACT

This study examines the relationship between corporate governance and organizational performance of seven selected banks and insurance companies located in Benin City. It specifically examined how corporate governance practices affect employee performance, job satisfaction and turnover intention. The study adopted a cross sectional surveyed by using questionnaire to collect data form 120 sampled employees in banks and insurance firms in Benin City. It uses Pearson Correlation Statistics as method of data analysis. Findings of the study revealed that corporate governance affect organizational performance. The study also found that   corporate governance has positive and significant influence job satisfaction but has negative and insignificant influence on employee turnover. Based on the these findings, the study recommends that management of banks and insurance should improve their corporate governance by reducing the value of the stock ownership of board members and ensuring compliance with the code of corporate governance.
