ABSTRACTThis study is titled Contrastive Analysis of three semantics fields of English and Yoruba. The three semantic fields to be used for the analysis of this study are names of birds, color terms and title terms. The data for the research was collected using a self-constructed world list consisting the items in the selected semantic fields. The areas of similarities and differences between the two languages of study are identified in relation to the Sapir – Whorf hypothesis which is the theoretical framework that the study is built upon.Data analysis reveals that most Yoruba terms are based on circumvention to give description to terms that are not lexicalized in relation to their world view to show a good level of relativity relating to the claim of Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. This project is divided to five chapters. Chapter one introduces the work, chapter two reviews previous works, chapter three gives clear account of the theoretical framework, chapter four shows the analysis of data and chapter five gives the summary of the findings and conclusion of the work.
