CONTEMPORARY DANCE AS A MEANS OF EXPRESSION: “A WOMAN’S ORDEAL” AS AN EXPERIMENT

ABSTRACT

This project explored contemporary dance as a means of expression, using “A Woman’s Ordeal’’, a dance on domestic violence as example. The dance performance “A Woman’s Ordeal” was created, researched and performed as an experiment for contemporary dance as expression. Relevant literatures on dance as a means of expression, and contemporary dance were consulted to establish the basis for the experimentation. The research concludes that dance is not a mere piece of entertainment but rather, a medium of education, creating awareness, and information. Therefore, Dance should generally be used as a means of passing information, and creating awareness about pressing issues in an entertaining way rather than being used  solely as a mere means of entertainment.
