ABSTRACT
This study assesses Consumption Behaviour of Nigerians towards Home Made Goods. Specifically, the study seeks to understand the consumption behaviour of Nigerians towards home made goods; to examine the extent to which Nigerians prefer home made goods to foreign goods; to find out the reasons for negative consumption behaviour of Nigerians towards home made goods; to find out correcting measures that can be put in place to ensure patronage of Nigerians towards home made goods. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted of consumers of home made goods in Benin City, Edo state. Questionnaires were administered to a sample of 385 respondents. The data generated from the use of questionnaires were analysed using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS 20) econometric software. The study was able to show that home made goods are inferior to foreign made goods in terms of quality and performance. The study also showed that most Nigerians prefer to buy foreign products instead of goods made in Nigerians because of low product quality. It was also revealed that locally made products in Nigeria often suffer from inconsistency in quality. Lastly, the research demonstrated that consumers perceive locally made products as lack of low quality due to its low price, and associate it to a specific class of people.
