ABSTRACT

Nigeria faces a significant challenge due to its unreliable electricity supply. Despite a potential generating capacity of 12,522 MW, daily generation falls short at around 4,650 MW. This shortfall forces homes and industries to rely heavily on internal combustion engine generators, contributing to air pollution (CO2 emissions) and climate change. This project addresses this critical need by presenting the design, construction, and performance evaluation of a sustainable, local-material-based fuelless generator. This innovative solution aims to provide an environmentally friendly and affordable alternative to traditional generators, promoting cleaner energy access. The report details the implementation using a direct current (DC) battery, DC motor, alternator, coupling mechanism, and a custom charging system (including transformer, diode, and capacitor). A 12V, 100Ah battery powers the 12V DC motor, which drives the alternator to generate electricity. The system can handle varying loads from 0W to 1kW, with efficiency considerations for different load levels. This project offers a promising approach to tackling Nigeria's power challenges while promoting a cleaner environment.
