ABSTRACT
The study examined the Constraints to Secondary School Social Studies Teachers’ Use of Community Resources in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. A descriptive research design which involves collection of data through the use of questionnaire was adopted to solicit information.
The population of the study consisted of all teachers in public junior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size for this study consisted of fifty (50) teachers. Three research questions were used to guide the study, research question one to three was answered using frequency count and percentages to analyze the data collected the reliability stood at 0.763. The findings revealed that administrative rigidity such as failure of school heads to draw appropriate time table, lack of cooperation from school heads and lack of financial aids from school and parents is a constraint to the use of community resources and the use of community resources improve students learning of social studies content in Junior Secondary School.
Based on the findings, it was recommended that social Studies teachers should try as much as possible to integrate the use of community resources in teaching social Studies contents. This will improve the quality of instruction given in schools and also ensure the use of student centred approach in teaching. Also, the School authority particularly school administration should encourage teachers to use community resources through financial support, appropriate scheduling of standard timetable and organisation of regular student development programme to promote teachers efficiency.
