COMPARISON OF EFFECTIVENESS OF MALE AND FEMALE PRINCIPALS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study compared the effectiveness of male and female principals in the management of public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.Specifically, the objective of the study was to compare the effectiveness of male and female principals in the management of material resources, human resources, financial resources and curriculum in Oredo public secondary schools while research questions includes the following, are male principals more effective than female principals in the management of material resources, human resources, financial resources and curriculum in Oredo public secondary schools? Descriptive survey research design was used to carry out this study. The population for the study consisted of 402 teachers. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 161 teachers of public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test. The results revealed that male principals are significantly more effective in the management of material resources, human resources, financial resources and curriculum in Oredo public secondary schools. It was recommended that principals of secondary schools need additional training in school administration. This will make them to be competitive in the committee of nations. It will also equip them with specialized skills and systematic body of principles to sharpen their administrative skills and to improve the management competency of principals, seminars, workshops and conferences have to be organized by universities and ministries of education. Principals need training and re-training in administration of secondary schools.
