ABSTRACT
Food scientists in addition to the overall public have paid lots of interest to the function and usefulness of many phytonutrients from plant reassets which include culmination and greens in current years. This study is designed to compare between avocado peel and pawpaw peel in order to ascertain the difference in their mineral, phytochemical, proximate and antioxidant activity composition. The sample extracts which contained 1000ug/ml was diluted using methanol to a solution which contained 250mg/ml of the sample and this was used to prepare other concentrations using serial dilution. A modified method of micro-Kjeldal as described by AOAC, the method of Pearson (1973) were employed in the determination of crude protein and crude fat content of the samples under proximate analysis while a DPPH standard method was used in determining the antioxidant activity of the extracts. The result of the DPPH antioxidant activity shows that avocado is higher than pawpaw same applies to the total tannins, total saponin and total flavonoid content. And as regards the proximate analysis the result shows the superiority of pawpaw peel over avocado peel obtained in this study. This work has shown that both plant extracts have beneficial effects due to their chemical constituents and as such they can be used for therapeutic purposes like, for treating different diseases and due to their high Saponin contents it can be useful for soap production and also in the Brewery.
