ABSTRACT

This work is a comparative study of Aku dialect and standard Igbo. It is limited only to this variety as it is the main focus of this study. This work adopted a descriptive survey design. The Ibadan four hundred (400) word list of basic vocabulary items was the primary instrument for data collection and two informants (native speakers) were used. Data gotten from the Aku dialect consist of 400 lexical items. The importance of this paper is to identify the similarities and differences in standard Igbo and Aku dialect. This study will be of help to those that will like to embark on a further research. The objective of this paper is to find out the similarities and differences that exists at the phonological level
