ABSTRACT
Rubber seed oil is semi-drying oil, it was extracted using a sohtlex extractor and the oil was subjected to hydroxylation and expoxidation (in situ) and the hydroxlated oil was used to prepare emulsion paint. The physio-chemical characteristics of the (RSO) and its ERSO/HRSO where determined. The acid value of RSO and ERSO/HRSO was 39.97 and 34.60 (mg/KOH/g), specific gravity of RSO and ERSO/HRSO was 0.923 and 1.030, saponification value of RSO and ERSO/HRSO was 202.36 and 215.86 (KOH/g) Iodine value of RSO and ERSO/HRSO was 136.87 and 17.12 (100g). Viscosity of RSO and ERSO/HRSO at 30°c was 60.90 and 161.50 (Cp), the paint was prepared according to institute of Standard, NIS 267:1989 and the performance characteristics of the paint was analyzed i.e, drying time, chemical resistance tests.
