ABSTRACT
The study focus was on the comparative analysis of traditional and modern teaching methods in history amongst secondary school teachers Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The design adopted for this study was the descriptive survey method. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide this study. The population of the study consisted of all secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size of this study was a total of thirty (30) students, a structured questionnaire was used to obtain data from respondents. Data collected from the survey was statistically analyzed. After analysis, results were displayed on tables showing mean, standard deviation, frequencies and percentage of responses. The findings of the study revealed the traditional and modern teaching methods used in teaching history amongst secondary school teachers in Ovia North East Local Government of Edo State which includes lecture-based activities, rote memorization, interactive and collaborative activities. The evolvement of technology in recent times which paved way to technology based activities such as the use of digital documents, Wikipedia and new age social media apps and equipment. Also, the findings shows a consistent involvement of traditional teaching methods by teachers compared to that of the modern methodologies.
