ABSTRACT
This comparative analysis was prompted by the need to show the level of relatedness between the Ikale dialect spoken in Ondo state and the standard Yoruba language to determine if indeed it’s a dialect of the standard Yoruba language as against the claim made by some scholars and native speakers that Ikale is not a dialect of Yoruba language by providing linguistics evidences to show the level of lexical similarities and differences between the two languages. The lexicostatistics method was employed in comparing the lexical items gotten from the two languages through the Ibadan 400 word list of basic vocabularies. The lexical items were subsequently analyzed statistically to provide the result of the findings.
