ABSTRACT

Comparative analysis of metal ions present in some agricultural wastes which include plantain stem, and the various moringa parts – stem, pods, seeds, leaves, roots were carried out to assess their usefulness  and potential of being ash-derived alkali in black soap making and as well as the possibility of reducing environmental pollution caused by them. Standard methods of analysis were used for all the parameters. Elemental analysis was done by taking the samples for metals detection using flame photometer and atomic absorption spectrophotometer. It is showed in the results that apart from plantain stem, cocoa pod husk, or palm bunch, other vegetable matters can also generate potash which is essential for the production of black soap and that some of the waste can be used for several beneficial purposes thereby reducing the harm and pollution they caused to the environment. The ash content results of the samples were:9.32, 9.14, 6.35, 7.36, 5.35 ,4.38   while that of the moisture content: 29.87, 34.17, 50.06, 43.11, 57.74. 22.07.
