ABSTRACT

The efficient utilization of natural gas plays a crucial role in meeting energy demands in Nigeria today. This research project aims to investigate LNG and GTL natural gas utilization technologies in Nigeria. Nigerian liquified Natural gas company (NLNG) and Escravos GTL company were used as the case study for the research comparison, with a focus on predicting which technology is more profitable for investor in Nigeria. The introductory chapter of the report contain a brief history of natural gas and why it is considered as the future energy for power consumption in the nearest future. The chapter also present the objective and aim of the project which is to analyze the current existing technologies of LNG and GTL in Nigeria. Chapter two summarizes the various stages involved to process the natural gas from its ore state to the refined state which serves as a feed to natural gas utilization plant. The chapter also explain in detail LNG and GTL natural gas utilization technologies, describing their process and limitations. Chapter three introduced LNG and GTL natural gas utilization technology to be used as a case study for the research. Cash budgeting economic model: Annual Equivalent, Future worth, Present worth method of comparison, were used to analyze the parameter data, CAPEX and OPEX for each case study in chapter four. The result showed that LNG technologies had less cash budget compare to GTL project after calculations using the various cash budget model. Conclusion and recommendation were made from the result in chapter four stating that the LNG project serves as a better project investment option for investors for natural gas utilization in Nigeria. Recommendation were also made in chapter five for further research on this topic of interest.
