ABSTRACT
This study examines the preferences and usage patterns of traditional and digital means of communication among mass communication students. The research aims to understand the factors that influence the academic success of the students, the perceived effectiveness of each channel, and the most used means of communication. The methodology employed was survey and had questionnaire as its instrument which was used to gather data from 97 respondents within the department of Mass Communication, University of Benin. The responses gotten from respondents connote that a lot of mass communication students’ academic success, are immensely influenced by the use of digital communication. The findings also contributed to a deeper understanding of how communication technologies are shaping the field of mass communication and will inform educators and practitioners about the evolving landscape of communication preferences in academic and professional settings. The researcher recommends that tertiary institution should implement robust security measures to protect student data and privacy against hacking. Also, tertiary institution should offer training and support to students, faculty, and staff on how to effectively use digital communication tools.
