ABSTRACT

This study is aimed at a comparative analysis of batteries used in photovoltaic (PV) system design using PVsyst Software. The objective of this study is to compare three types of batteries (Lithiumion, Tubular and Deep cycle) to determine the most suitable option for the Electrical /Electronics Department, Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Benin. The research methodology involves several steps which include; taking an estimate of the load in the department, reviewing several literatures on batteries and utilizing PVsyst software for the comparative analysis. The results show the advantages of one battery over the other based on certain battery parameters. The study validated the Lithium-ion battery as the most suitable option over an extended period due to its superior performance and reliability.
