Summary
The aim of the study was to examine the impact of community policing and crime prevention in Egor local government area in Egor local government area. The survey research design was adopted in the study, the study covered Egor local government area, with an area of 88(7) km2. The population of the study consisted of rural women in the local government. A sample of 5 towns were selected (Uselu, Uwasota, Uwagboe, Uwelu and Egor saw mill), there was equal distribution of respondents, with 20 from each of the town sampled, making it 100. The sample was selected using simple random sampling technique, the instrument for data collection was the 4 point Likert scale questionnaire, divided into 2 parts. The first part addressed the demographic data of the respondents while the second part addressed the research questions. The data collected was analyzed using simple percentages.
The findings of the study revealed that community policing has a major role to play in preventing crime in the community in terms of partnering with members of the public to detect and control crime, become proactive in stopping future crimes and setting priorities in the community. Community policing and the perceptions of people on security projections state that the decisions made by the public is vital in promoting security.
