ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to determine communication styles as predictors of administrative efficiency of school heads in Edo south senatorial district of Edo state. To achieve this objective, five (5) research questions were raised and five (5) research hypotheses were formulated. The population of the study comprised all the Senior Secondary School Teachers in the Seven Local Government Area of Edo South Senatorial District and a sample size of 150 Senior Secondary School Teachers were selected and used through random sampling technique. The Correlational research design was used in this study. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to answer the research question while the Regression Analysis was used to test the hypotheses. A total population of 1500 Secondary School Teachers of Public Secondary Schools within the seven (7) Local Government Areas of Edo South Senatorial District was used with a sample size of 150 teachers which is 10% of our research population was consulted as the research respondents. An 18 items structured research questionnaire which was validated by experts was used for the data collection. The Cronbach Alpha Statistical Method was used to determine the reliability of the research instrument, which yielded an alpha coefficient value of 0.833 for communication styles and 0.886 for administrative efficiency. The findings of this study revealed that relationship does exist between each of the communication styles and the administrative efficiency of school heads in Edo South Senatorial District of Edo State. It also revealed that indeed each of the four communication styles are predictors of the administrative efficiency of the school heads in Edo South Senatorial District of Edo State. Therefore, it was recommended that there is still need to provide an environment where teachers can feel comfortable providing constructive feedback on the communication approaches of their school heads. And also, that teachers should be trained and enlightened on the impacts of each of the four communication styles and how they affect the efficiency of their school heads.
