ABSTRACT
It is a general phenomenon among Nigerians, that Nigerian Films (Nollywood) consists of some negative contents such as criminality, kidnapping, armed theft, thuggery, sexual immorality, drug abuse amongst others which in turn evokes negative reactions from the viewers. These negative reactions results in major negative societal significance. The main aim of this research study is to explore the positive values projected in selected Nollywood movies as it relates to different areas of the society and life in general, therefore, promoting social change. In the course of this research work, literary materials and selected movies were substantially analyzed. This research attempts to demonstrate that regardless of the negative contents of most Nollywood movies, some also have positive meanings and communicate good moral and societal values that covers areas of the society. To further demonstrate this two (2) movies, Half of a Yellow Sun and Dry reflecting and communicating societal values were analyzed.
In conclusion , the researcher suggests, among other things, that Nigerian Home movies should be explored to the fullest extent possible, as a development communication tool. Hopefully this research would enable the movie directors and producers to produce moral infused movies.
