ABSTRACT
The study is to examine the impact of communal dispute on rural development in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State. The specific objectives used for the were to Assess the historical context and root causes of communal disputes, analyse the impact of communal disputes on the social, economic, and infrastructural development, explore the role of local governance and community leaders in resolving and mitigating communal disputes for sustainable rural development and give the necessary recommendation for promoting peacebuilding, social cohesion, and inclusive rural development in the area. The study was conducted within Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The study was carried out in Isihor and Oluku Community in Ovia noth East Local Government Area Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. The estimated population of Ovia noth East Local Government Area is 301,447 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Bini ethnic division. The sample of this research was calculated by using Taro Yamane (Yamane, 1973) formula with 90% confidence level. The sample size is 99.98 form the total population which is the lower number of responses from the respondents to maintain a 90% confident interval.
