ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to investigate classroom management and students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo state. The study sought to determine the extent to which discipline, effective teaching, classroom reward system, delegation of authority and maintainance of classroom environment influence students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Literature review covered relevant text and documents relevant to the topic. The study adopted a descriptive survey research of a correlational design. The population of included all students from Junior Public Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. A sample size of 200 was selected using the Purposive Sampling Technique. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and checklist. The data collected was properly organized and tabulated. The responses were statistically analyzed by the use of Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher therefore concludes that Classroom discipline has a high relationship with students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Egor Local Government area of Edo State. Based on the conclusion drawn from the findings, the following recommendations were made among others. Educational administrators in x Edo State public secondary schools should as much as possible ensure that classroom teachers maintain discipline among class members during teaching learning activities.
