ABSTRACT
Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak poses serious concerns to global education systems. Efforts to contain COVID-19 prompted unscheduled closure of schools in more than 100 countries worldwide. COVID-19 school closures left over one billion learners out of school.
The purpose of the work was to study the average class size and compliance with covid 19 protocols, which includes the use of face mask, hand sanitizer wash hand basin and soap for washing hands in public primary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area. The goal was to know how well the knowledge of preventive measures is known to the schools and their attitudes towards maintaining good preventive measures and to find possible ways for better adherence. The quantitative research method was used. Questionnaire was distributed to teachers who were used for the study as respondents, and checklist observation method was carried out also by the researcher. Results from the findings indicated that majority of the sampled schools were above the average class size according to the national policy on Education, also the classes were not conducive enough for both the teachers and pupils and because of that majority of the sampled schools were not putting on their face mask during the time of visitation. The results revealed that although majority of the sampled schools had wash hand basin and running water, but few had soap for washing hand and none of the sampled schools had hand sanitizer.
In the conclusion it came to attention that there is the need for more provision of facilities for the prevention of covid 19 for schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area. And the government should provide more buildings, chairs, tables, teachers, marker board for schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area, so the classrooms can be more conducive for the pupils to wear their face mask.
