CLASS SIZE AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS ECONOMICS IN IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, BENIN CITY

ABSTRACT

The study examined class size and academic achievement of students Economics in Egor foe al government arsa of Edo state. The specific objectives of the study were aimed at finding out the average class size of secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, investigates the average academic achievement of students in Egor Local Government Area, find out if there is a difference in class size according to focation, an well as examining the difference in class size based on gender Four research questions were raised for the study The research adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of this study comprises of thirteen (13) public senior secondary school in Egor local government area. A sample of 3 school were selected. The researcher formulated a checklist which was used as an instrument of data collection. This was done by the researcher, by moving from one of the selected schools to another The findings from this study indicated that the average class size in Egor Local Government Area is 46, class size is dependent on location and also there is a difference in students' academic performance based on gender Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that Class sizes should be decreased. Government officials, administrators, and educators must come together and implement class size reductions and Teachers and educators should be trained on how class-size reductions have progressed and improved student scores throughout the years, so that they are all on board.
