ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to investigate class management in secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City, as a predictor of students' academic achievement. Descriptive survey research was the method used in this study. Teachers at five public schools in the local government region of Oredo made up the study's population. 125 people total, 25 from each of the chosen schools, make up the sample. The respondents that were included in the study were chosen using a basic random sampling approach. The questionnaire, which was personally delivered each day and yielded 119 valid responses, served as the data collection tool. With the use of descriptive statistics, the data were reanalyzed.

The analysis's conclusion indicated that there was a strong correlation between academic success and classroom management. As a result, learning takes place more easily when students are at ease and interacting with one another and the teacher. Classroom rules and regulations that might affect students' academic progress include maintaining discipline in the classroom, requiring frequent and correct attendance, and upholding moral principles against any type of cheating. Providing students with comfortable seats, educational resources, and seating arrangements can improve their academic performance. Among the difficulties teachers have in managing the classroom are students who make noise, the absence of incentive programmes, and a lack of motivation. According to the study, teachers may use incentive systems for positive conduct and student participation and feedback to improve classroom management as strategies for overcoming obstacles.

According to the study's conclusions, educators should strive to implement creative ideas to inspire students to learn, enforce stricter classroom rules, and provide classrooms with a variety of learning tools in addition to textbooks. Teachers should strive to introduce massive ideas to motivate learning, such as frequent involvement in debates, quizzes, and competitions. They should also recognise and use appropriate motivation as a key figure influencing students' behaviour and achievement by imparting the necessary knowledge and skills to inspire their students to greater heights in academics.
