ABSTRACT
Selecting an appropriate simulator for a network project is a critical decision that demands careful attention. Numerous network professionals have experienced setbacks due to the selection of simulators that fail to meet performance standards, resulting in unsuccessful projects or even their complete abandonment. Although extensive research has been conducted to compare various network simulators, there has been a notable lack of focus on Cisco-specific network simulation tools. Cisco simulators hold significant value in network simulation and should not be excluded from any comprehensive comparative analysis. This research aims to fill that gap by evaluating Cisco simulators alongside other relevant simulators. The comparison is grounded in an assessment framework that incorporates eight key performance metrics: scalability, ease of programming, compatibility, licensing requirements, graphical user interface (GUI) support, routing protocol implementation, advantages, and disadvantages. The findings from this analysis suggest that Cisco simulators provide considerable benefits, offering superior performance that can enhance the success of network simulations. As a result, it is strongly recommended that network professionals and researchers include Cisco network simulators in their evaluations to ensure the best possible outcomes for their projects.
