ABSTRACT

This thesis is an empirical investigation of effect of the circular economy and industry 4.0 on organizational performancein Nigeria. Specifically, the study examine the relationship between industry 4.0 and the circular economy; the effects of industry 4.0 in relation to social, financial and environmental performance; the effect of Industry 4.0 on competitive advantage; the effect of the circular economy on firm’s performance; and the moderating influence of Industry 4.0 on the relationship between circular economy and performance. 

            This study adapted questionnaire and made use of three hundred and twenty four (324) returned copies of questionnaire out of the total three hundred and fifty (350) copies of questionnaire administered to respondents in Ogun state. Responses from the questionnaire were coded and subjected to structural equation modeling estimation for purpose of data analyses.    

            The estimation of the structural equation modeling revealed that there is a significant relationship between industry 4.0 and the circular economy, there is a significant relationship between industry 4.0 and firm’s performance, there is a significant relationship between industry 4.0 and competitive advantage, there is a significant relationship between circular economy and firm’s performance, Industry 4.0 has significant moderating influence on the relationship between circular economy and firm’s performance.  It is therefore recommended that organisations should always embrace changes in technology in time in order not to lag behind in the scheme of things in terms of adaptability to the new normal, and that goal and objectives should be crafted in such a way that industrial revolution is put into consideration.
