ABSTRACT
This study seeks to know the implications of Child Abuse on the child's education taking Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State as a case study. Child abuse is a serious issue that affects many students. It is important to provide support and resources to those who have experienced or are currently experiencing abuse. This can include counseling services, hotlines, and legal assistance. It is also important to educate students, staff, and community members on the signs and effects of child abuse, as well as how to report it. Additionally, creating a safe and supportive environment at school can help students who have been affected by abuse to feel more comfortable and secure. Overall, it is essential that we all work together to prevent and address child abuse, and support those who have been affected by it.
The survey research design was adopted for the study. To achieve the purpose of the study, three research questions were raised. The sample size of senior secondary schools were used for the study. Data was collected with the aid of well-structured and valid questionnaires; the data collected were analyzed using simple percentages.
The result of our findings showed that child abuse negatively affects child’s school performance; such abused children have less time to read or rather concentrate on their studies. Corroborating the researchers’ efforts in the area of child abuse and its effect on academic performance, Nomcebo (2008) found a significant relationship between child abuse and academic performance. His study mainly focused on sexual abuse especially as it affects the child educational upbringing Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations were made; it was recommended that there is the need for teachers to stick to the guideline method of evaluation and implementation of continuous assessment e.t.c.
