ABSTRACT

Morinda citrifolia, commonly known as noni, is a tropical plant renowned for its traditional medicinal uses. In this study, we investigated the chemical composition, antioxidant potential, and antimicrobial properties of the methanol extract of Morinda citrifolia. The plant material was carefully collected, processed, and subjected to various analytical techniques. The proximate analysis revealed the nutritional profile of the methanol extract, including moisture content, ash content, crude protein, crude fat, and carbohydrates. Mineral analysis identified essential minerals present in the extract, contributing to its potential nutritional value. Phytochemical screening demonstrated the presence of diverse phytochemical groups, including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, saponins, and phenolic compounds, highlighting the rich chemical diversity of Morinda citrifolia. Antioxidant activity assays, including DPPH, indicated the significant antioxidant potential of the extract. This suggests that Morinda citrifolia may hold promise as a source of natural antioxidants with potential health benefits. Furthermore, antimicrobial studies revealed the extract's inhibitory effects against a range of microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi. The extract exhibited varying degrees of antimicrobial activity, underscoring its potential as a natural antimicrobial agent. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the chemical composition and bioactive properties of the methanol extract of Morinda citrifolia. These findings contribute to our understanding of the potential health benefits associated with Morinda citrifolia and underscore its significance in traditional medicine and as a potential source of natural antioxidants and antimicrobial agents. Further research is warranted to explore its applications in health and medicine.
