ABSTRACT
This paper aims to create an awareness about recent developments in AI and encourage educators to anticipate for a more extensive use of chatbot in the future. The writer elucidates the need of using AI to achieve the goals without going beyond ethical boundaries. In carrying out this research study, primary and secondary sources of data collection were employed, while chi-square and simple percentages were used to analyze the data collected through the administration of questionnaires from a sample of University of Benin students. . Also, in carrying out the research, three research questions were adopted and two hypotheses were formulated. Analysis revealed that while ChatGPT offers numerous benefits, such as providing information about new topics and serving as a brainstorming partner, excessive usage can lead to students relying on ChatGPT to provide answers for them instead of them actually studying to find those answers. The author conclude that there is an urgent need to establish procedures and ethical rules for the use of AI in higher education as students may no longer use their own critical thinking skills but instead rely on ChatGPT. The Author recommend that students should be given ethical guidance in other to control their use of ChatGPT. The author also suggests that educator should devise other means of evaluation in which students will not have the advantage of using ChatGPT.
