ABSTRACT
This study explores the importance of costume in a theatrical performance, as well as the powerful effect of costume in transforming an actor into his character. With special reference to Chinua Achebe's "THINGS FALL APART"(a stage version written and adapted for stage by Bassey Effiong). This study also explores the possible steps to be considered by a costume designer in order to properly design the right costume of a character. Captions of images from the stage performance were also used for visual appreciation. There was also an interview section with the costume designer of the stage performance, which proved helpful in the curse of the research. In the course of this research, it was made clear that the Theatre Artists in-charge of costume is one out of many that cannot be replaced.
