ABSTRACT

Abattoir wastewater consist of several pollutants such as animal feaces, blood, urine and other organic matter. Abattoirs often have difficulties in disposing, treating and processing of these wastes in an environmentally acceptable manner. Due to this reasons there is high risk of environmental pollutions like underground water pollution, air pollution, nuisance, odor, soil pollution and public health risks through transmission of zoonotic diseases to human. This study involves collecting abattoir wastewater from the government abattoir and characterization of the raw abattoir wastewater through direct reading of some physiochemical parameters and biological treatment of the abattoir wastewater which involves aerating the wastewater by stirring, and characterization of the physiochemical parameters of the biologically treated wastewater; and then comparative analysis of the parameters of the raw and treated abattoir wastewater.
