ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study is to identify the Challenges of Teaching Practice as perceived by University of Benin Education Students. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population consisted of all Education Students in the University of Benin. However, 105 student-teachers were randomly and conveniently sampled for data collection. The instrument used for the study was a structured questionnaire. The result of data analysis of the study revealed some challenges that student-teachers face during teaching practice exercise which includes lack of classroom management skills, lack of cooperation between student-teachers and resident teachers, lack of confidence, curriculum development and supervisory challenges. The study recommended that allowance should be given to student-teachers during the teaching practice, student-teachers should be provided with lodging accommodation by the practicing school, competent and dedicated supervisors should be used in teaching practice supervision, adequate curriculum guidelines, facilities, reference materials like textbooks etc. should be made available and students should be sent to high quality schools with enabling learning environment.
