ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to investigate the challenges of teaching English language in secondary schools in rural areas: A case study of Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State. In order to achieve the intended objectives of the study, five (5)research questions were raised and fifty-four (54) teachers drawn from public secondary schools in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo state were used to answer the research questions. The descriptive survey research design was employed for the study. The tool utilized to collect data was a self-constructed questionnaire. Utilizing an expert approach, the instrument was verified. When the instrument's reliability was tested using the Cronbach's Alpha method, a reliability coefficient of 0.84 was obtained, indicating that the instrument was trustworthy. Simple percentage, frequency count and mean deviation were used to analyze the data.
