Abstract
This study evaluates the challenges faced by reporters, it sets out to study the various challenges that Journalists encounters during the course of their job, it also finds out if the emergence of online Journalism has been a challenge to the practice of Journalism and the problem of competition in news gathering as well as meeting of deadline. The study was anchored on the Libertarian theory of the press, it has a population of 263 Journalists from the population understudy, out of which a sample size of 100 questionnaires was determined using the purposive sampling technique. The study made use of primary and secondary data. The questionnaire was used as the research instrument for the study and a total number of 98 questionnaires retrieved from respondents were reviewed. The survey research design was adopted for the study. The result of the analysis revealed that most Journalists find the process of news reporting very challenging and difficult because of the huddles surrounding it. Many of these challenges are natural to journalism practice. However a more practical challenge to the profession is the act of information sourcing, getting information to news stories in Nigeria can be very frustrating even with the enactment of the Freedom of Information Act. It concluded that the Freedom of Information Act has the power to enhance Journalism practice in support of national development, and also that certain anti-press laws embodied in the constitution should be abolished in order to provide suitable working conditions for Journalists.
