ABSTRACT
This study examined challenges facing the media in dissemination of information: A study of NTA, Benin City, Edo State. The objectives of this study were to investigate the to what extent do government/political interference,harassment/ intimidation of media personnel,insecurity, lack/inadequate resources stand a barrier to media in dissemination of information. To achieve the objectives of the study, one hundred (100) questionnaires were administered by the researcher, of which eight-four (84) were returned successfully and were used for the data analysis and presentation.
The data gathered for the purpose of this study were analyzed using frequency count, percentage and chi-square () statistical tool was utilized in testing the formulated hypotheses. At the end of the analysis, the study revealed thatgovernment/political interference, harassment/intimidation, insecurity as well as lack/inadequate resources stand a barrier to media in dissemination of information.
In line with these findings, it is recommended that the issue of government/ political interference in the media activities should be discouraged. The media should be allowed to carry out their constitutional duties freely by way of passing the freedom of information bill.
