ABSTRACT
This research was designed to investigate the challenges encountered by vocational education students during SIWES and Its implication on skill acquisition. Literature review
showed despite the glaringly benefits of SIWES to Vocational education students, they are also faced with several challenges during SIWES programme which negatively impact on their skill acquisition.
The main research instrument used was the questionnaire to which 108 randomly selected students responded. The validation of the research instrument was obtained through scrutiny of the project supervisor and two other lecturers from the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, the reliability ratio of the instrument was determined through Pearson Product moment this yielded a reliability ratio of 0.80.
The analysis and interpretation of data involved the use of mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. It was recommended that the SIWES programme should be redesigned in order to accommodate the challenges encountered by vocational education students so that the relevance of the SIWES programme would be accomplished
