ABSTRACT
The purpose of this was to inspect/scrutinize the challenges besetting the effective teaching of Biology in senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. This study was guided by four(4) research questions. The design used for this study is the descriptive survey research design. A sample of forty (40) teachers were randomly selected from the population. The research Instrument that was used for this research work for the collection of data was structured questionnaire, to seek the opinion of the respondents on the subject matter. The validity of the Instrument was done by the supervisor and one more competent lecturer in the Faculty of Education. The data was inspected/analyzed with descriptive statistics of mean and simple percentage. The findings from the study revealed among others that the lack of Instructional materials and lack of well-equipped Biology laboratories constitute some challenges besetting the effective teaching of Biology in senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area. It is recommended that the government and all stakeholders in the Ministry of Education as well as school management should provide good and enough Instructional materials and well-equipped laboratories for these schools and that teachers should try to also improvise where necessary and make proper use of every academic facilities for the effective teaching of Biology in senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo.
