Abstract
The value of exclusive breastfeeding has been stressed through growing advocacy for exclusive breastfeeding.Mothers are recommended to exclusively breastfeed their infants for the first six months of their lives. Also, after the sixth month, breastfeeding should continue till age two and beyond. The objective of this study was to assess the challenge associated with compliance with exclusive breastfeeding among mothers of infants enrolled in selected creche in Benin Metropolis.In this research study, a descriptive survey research was used to obtain data. Data was collected from 93 respondents through a structured questionnaire and analysed using frequency table, percentage and mean statistics. Result from this finding shows that majority of the respondents ranked between ages, 31-35. Most of the mothers were married. Majority of the respondents were Christians. From this finding, majority of respondents had good knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding but very few exclusively breastfed their infant. The study revealed that nursing mothers finds it challenging to comply with the WHO policy on exclusive breastfeeding due to sore or cracked nipple, time factor, expenses involved, nature of their jobs, stress associated with it.
