ABSTRACT
These studies examine the causes of sexual behaviours among secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area Edo State.
The population of this study was all the senior secondary school students in the 12 public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State were 6838. Using the multistage sampling procedures 302 was selected for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics involving frequency counts and simple percentages were used to analyze the data obtained from the study.
The results show that the awareness of cervical cancer screening among the mothers attending antenatal was found to be very low, with only 15% that had ever been screened. It was recommended amongst others that Health educators especially Nigeria Association of Health Educators (NAHE) should wake up to the responsibilities of visiting religion homes and secondary schools to enlighten the youth on the importance of virginity and the health consequences of early exposure to sexual intercourse.
