ABSTRACT
This study examined the causes of poor enrolment of male students into Home Economics education in tertiary institutions citing the University of Benin as a case study. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. Data was collected from one hundred and fifty (150) respondents randomly selected from 100-400 levels in Home Economics Education in the departments of Vocational and Technical Education, Faculty of Education. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using mean score and standard deviation. The findings from the study include that Parents do contribute to the poor level of male students’ enrolment into Home Economics Education in University of Benin, Benin City. It was concluded that parents, teachers, customs and norms all constitutes the causes of poor enrolment of male students into Home Economics education in tertiary institutions. It was therefore recommended among others that Male learners should be sensitized by teachers and parents to give up their negative views about studying Home Economics, that is, their view of the subject as a feminine course.
