Abstract
This study investigated the Causes, Consequences and Counselling interventions of divorce among divorced couples in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. The purpose of this study was to identify causes, effects and counselling interventions of divorce among divorced couples in the study area. A descriptive design was used in this study and a sample of 370 married and divorced was used as the study sample. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire entitled “ Causes, Consequences and Counselling Intervention of Divorce among Divorced Couples.[ CCCD ]. Percentages and averages were used to answer research questions. An independent t-test was used to test the hypotheses. All hypotheses were tested at a significance level of 0.05. The results of the study revealed that there is no significant differences in the perceptions of Married and Divorced Couples on the causes of divorce among divorced couples, and the effects of divorce. Therefore, the study recommended premarital counseling for people, both married and divorced couples, as well as young men and women in society, to prepare them comfortably for married life. The counsellors should make effective use of mass media and participating forums to create awareness in people's minds about divorce and its effects.
