ABSTRACT
The cucumis sativus is a member of the Cucurbitaceae family. Other membersof the family include squash and different kinds of melon, including bitter melon. India have grown cucumis sativus, its trusted Source for food and medicinal purposes since ancient times, and they have long been part of the Mediterranean diet. This study was carried out to evaluate the anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory effect of Methanol extract of the leaves of CUCUMIS SATIVUS in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. 25 male albino wistar rats were seperated at random into 5 groups (5 rats each) 1 to 5. Group 1 and 2 served as the normal control, group 3,4 and 5 were induced with Streptozotocin (STZ). Group 5 animals were treated with ethanol extracts (300mg/Kg b.w), administered daily for 28 days. At the end of the study duration based on the statistics obtained, observations showed that there was a gradual reduction of blood glucose in the rats administered the cucumis sativus extract. Results of this study also showed that the oral administration of ethanol extract of cucumis sativus causes a significant increase in the body weights of diabetic rats.
