ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of business ethics on organizational citizenship behaviour of deposit money banks in Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study are to explore the effect of clarity on organizational citizenship behaviour, to investigate the effect of transparency on organizational citizenship behaviour, to find out the effect of employees’ commitment on organizational citizenship behaviour. The population size of this study includes employees of selected First Bank in Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria and a sample size of 172 respondents were chosen during the duration of the fieldwork. The method adopted in this research is descriptive in nature. The data used in this study were obtained from primary sources and the data collected were analyzed with regression analysis technique. Empirical findings from our study indicate that clarity has a positive and significant effect on organizational citizenship behaviour. Again, in collecting data on transparency, it was observed that transparency has a positive and significant effect on organizational citizenship behaviour. Furthermore, it was observed that employee commitment has a positive and significant effect on organizational citizenship behaviour. The study therefore recommends that organisations should create an environment that is adapted to promoting clarity. This has the capacity to create a productive work environment and improve organizational citizenship behaviour. Organisations should uphold transparency in all their dealings as this can increase trust in management and thus increase organizational citizenship behaviour. Organisations should study and understand why employees are committed to the organisation and improve on this aspect. This will ensure an increase in organizational citizenship behavior.
