ABSTRACT
The study examined business education students’ perception of secretarial profession in the era of information technology. In conducting the study, five research questions were raised to guide the study. The design of the study was descriptive survey research design. While the instrument adopted was a structured questionnaire titled “business education students’ perception of secretarial profession in the era of information technology in University of Benin”.The population of the study comprised of one hundred and ninety six (196) registered 300 level and 400 level of Business Education Students of 2020/2021 academic session in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, University of Benin, out of which 100 students were used as sample. Data obtained was analyzed using Mean (X) and Standard Deviation (SD). The reliability of the instrument was ensured by using Cronbach Alpha reliability computation which yielded a co-efficient index of 0.84.The result of the findings revealed that business education students believed secretarial profession to be of great importance in preparing secretaries to easily accept and adapt information technology of the modern day office. It was therefore recommended that government and the stakeholders in educational sector should organize public orientation programme to correct the misconception given to secretarial studies as a programme. In addition that parent should encourage their children to develop interest in Business Education programme and at the same time provide them with the enabling support so as to encourage them, among others.
