ABSTRACT
The basic argument for the effectiveness of local government is the administrative need to extend the relevance of local government in aspect of service delivery to its populace and presence of good governance throughout a political system. In Nigeria, this insatiable need should compel the government to accept the notion of adopting a well designed bureaucratic organisational structure in the local government parastatals of the country. The study looked into the administrative structure of local governments in Nigeria, as well as the issues they face and how they might overcome them. The following objectives were investigated using descriptive analysis: to assess the challenges facing local government structure in Nigeria, to investigate the efforts of the Nigerian government in ensuring effective local government structure , and to inquire about the levels of readiness of local governments toward the adoption of bureaucratic system in local government structure that enhances effective and efficient local governance.
