In science, certain methods are used to develop and test ideas. A scientist will make observations, propose and test ideas, and form conclusions.
Observation is basic to science. When you observe something you note facts about it. Observations are facts. For example, you look at the sky, you say it is cloudy. This statement is an observation. Special tools are often used to make observations. These tools enable you to take measurements and make calculations that can be recorded as data. Some of these tools are a ruler, thermometer, and a microscope. What are some tools you have used to make observations? Using observations, a scientist can propose hypothesis.
A hypothesis is a scientific “guess” it is suggested answer to a question or solution to a problem. Once a hypothesis proposed it must be tested. In actual practice, the methods of science are not exact step by step process. However a scientist will look at problem of question in an organized manner, skill, luck, trial and error, and intelligent guessing all play part.
