Summary

This research study centres on the Boko haram insurgency in Nigeria and its effects on women and children.          The study started off by highlighting at the fact that insurgent activities have been peculiar in Nigeria through various groups which came up as a result of either political, ethnic, or religious reasons. The study looked at the Niger-delta militancy which all came from an ethnic perception, and each representing their state’s interest and fighting for justice. The study also saw how a particular cause gave rise to these groups and how they operated. However, never has Nigeria experienced terrorist attacks before until the Boko haram emergence. This sect came out as a religious group lead by Mohammed Yusuf who wanted to purify the corrupt practices, injustice, unemployment, etc. which was prevalent among the government officials and thus refused western education and activities. Ironically, the very same western culture that they have refused, is the very same thing used by them, in terms of technology, arms and ammunitions, vehicles, YouTube, etc.
