ABSTRACT

This study investigated the impact of board structure and corporate financial performance of listed firms in Nigeria. The objective was to ascertain the impact of different board structures on financial results. The research aimed to clarify the relationship between board structure, represented by independent variables, and business financial performance, the dependent variable, using a multiple regression econometric model. The study utilised secondary data analysis, specifically drawing from the annual reports of 41 listed firms in the Nigerian Exchange Group. An analysis was conducted using descriptive statistical tests, Pearson correlation, and panel regression analysis to evaluate the presence and importance of connections between board structure characteristics and corporate financial performance. The return on total assets was used as a measure of corporate financial performance, enabling a thorough assessment of the influence of board structure on financial results. This study enhanced the comprehension of the interplay between board structure and business financial performance in the Nigerian setting, providing useful insights for both practitioners and policymakers.
