ABSTRACT

This research study seeks to examine whether the various board characteristics have an impact on the performance of thirty (30) manufacturing firms listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The study used statistical analysis research design and used a time period of right (8) years ranging from (2013-2020). The independent variables used in this research study includes the board size, board diligence, board gender diversity and board independence, while the dependent variable is the firm performance. The estimation techniques adopted in the project study is the Ordinary Least Square Method (OLS) and also the multiple regression analysis was used in this research study. The use of inferential statistics was adopted to test the research hypothesis and to analyze the study. The study showed that the board size of a firm has a significant relationship with the firm performance as the P-value of 0.008 is less than the bench Mark p-value of 0.05% while the board diligence which serves as a proxy for frequency of board meeting, has a significant relationship with firm performance reason that the P-value of 0.000 is less than the benchmark value of 0.05 and also board gender diversity also has a P-value of 0.000 which is less than the benchmark value of 0.05 which therefore means the board gender diversity has a significant relationship with firm performance which in turn we reject all null hypothesis.
