ABSTRACT

The increasing prevalence of academic credential fraud undermines the integrity of educational achievements and necessitates robust solutions. This project introduces a decentralized application (dApp) designed to address this challenge. This project leverages the transformative power of blockchain technology (Web3) while seamlessly integrating with traditional software development tools.

The development of this project employed the Agile Methodology, utilizing tools such as the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), Solidity, Remix, and Web3.js. The project was built on the Polygon Test Network and Binance Smart Chain, with smart contracts written in Solidity. Front-end and back-end development leveraged the React JS Framework and JavaScript. The final product was deployed to the live environments of both the Polygon and Binance Smart Chain networks.

From results obtained from deployment, the cost of uploading records (hashing files and uploading document hashes among all blockchain interactions) was found to be up to 90% less expensive on Polygon than it was on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) network. This is due to the fact that even though both blockchains utilize the Ethereum Virtual Machine standard, the network may impose different computing costs. The developed application empowers educational institutions to securely upload and manage their students' academic records as well as promote trust, transparency, and efficiency across the educational landscape.
